SRINAGAR FORTRESS- SRINAGAR

The Srinagar Fortress is an ancient monument of Jammu and Kashmir. It was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar during the times of starvation in the valley of Kashmir. The fortress is situated on a hillock in the heart of the Srinagar City. The main concern over the constructing this fort is to offer employment opportunities to the local people of Kashmir. Nowadays, the fort is under the occupation of Indian Army and thus, public access has been prohibited. In recent past, it also served as a prison.
