There are some good numbers of tourist destinations in Kashmir including popular and undiscovered places. Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Pahalgam are the most popular places to visit in Kashmir. However, there are also some beautiful yet unexplored places such as Krishnasar Lake, Aru Village, Kokernag, Verinag, Lolab valley and the list is goes on.

Kashmir is widely known for good numbers of beautiful fresh water and high altitude lakes. Popular lakes located in the valley are Dal Lake, Nagin Lake, Wular Lake, Manasbal Lake, Krishnasar Lake Mansar Lake, Sruinsar Lake, Pangong Lake, Tso Moriri Lake, Tso Kar Lake, Gangabal Lake, etc.

Snowfall generally starts at the end of November and continues till the month of March. Tourist can see the snow in Sonmarg even in summer, where snow remains throughout the year.

At end of January month when thick mantle of snow covered the entire valley. Tourists can enjoy snow sports like snow skiing/ snow scooter/snow cycle/sledge etc.

The month of April (spring season) is the best time to visit tulip garden when flowers are in full bloom.

Generally, cost of pony ride and skiing set starts from a few of hundreds to 2 – 3 thousands. Cost may vary according to time and type of the set and off course on your bargain capacity.

Heavy woolens, snow boots and all necessary accessories are available on rent in the nearby shops of the skiing resorts.

In the present scenario, there are no trains that move between the Jammu and Srinagar. However, Indian Railways is working on the plans and soon the service would become available, until then it is all the way road journey.

There two major options existing. The first option is that you can hire a sharing car from Jammu Station, and the cost would be approx.,Rs 700 to 800 per person. The second major option would be to hire private taxi or car, and the rental per person would be approx.., Rs 3500 to 5500.

The calculated journey by road between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar is 300 kms, and you would love exploring the amazing locales during this journey.

The road journey from Jammu to Srinagar is no less than filled with scenic views and amazing pleasures of life. The roads are well kempt and maintained in comparison to Chandigarh-Shimla and all the more quite wider. The time taken to complete the journey under normal set of conditions is around 8 Hrs. There is short halt at Peerah for Lunch. (Popular Lunch served is Rajma and Rice.)

There are 3 to 4 sightseeing destinations available, but Patnitop is more attractive and well known among the local as well as foreign tourists. It is just pleasurable moment to be around.

There are no extra expenses involved, but you need to pay toll tax near Lower Munda, which is going to cost only Rs 70 /- for small cars.

Local buses ply regularly earlyin the morning from 5 AM to 6 AM.Only Volvo buses are running during late night.

Jawahar Tunnel is two tunnels with the length of first tunnel approximately 2.85 km &length of second tunnel is 2.50 Kms. The Tunnel is in operation from 22 December 1956. It is situated between Banihal and Qazigund area.

There is high risk of landslides during the night. However, during the day time, traveling is far easy. The visibility is also very high during the day time and therefore traveling becomes easy.

There is a local train operational in Kashmir, which advances from Banihal (located at the distance of 188kms from Jammu) and arrives at Baramulla Train Station (lying 166kms from Banihal).There is also the station in Srinagar as well.

The approximate time taken by the train to travel from Banihal to Srinagar is1hr and 52mins. It is quite a comfortable journey all the way.

The Airport of Kashmir valley is strategically located in Srinagar (SXR), and about 12 Kms from the center of the city. The airport of Jammu (IXJ) is approximately 8 Kms from city center. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways are operating scheduled flights on daily basis from Jammu to Delhi to Jammu. Many private airline operators in Deccan Airlines and Spice Jet are operating on the same route on far lowest costs. You need to check with the respective airlines for scheduled times.

Ladakh is well connected to Srinagar and Delhi. There are three important modes through which you can reach Ladakh. These include:
1) Indian Airlines/Jet Airways from Delhi to Leh from major airlines such as Indian Airlines or Jet Airways.
2) Road trip from Manali to Leh usually takes 2 days journey (474 kilometers) passing throughKeylong with a night halt in Sarchu.
3) Road trip from Srinagar to Leh will take approx. 2 days journey (434 kilometers) with a night halt at Kargil. The entire road stretch to Leh belt remains open from May to October.

June through October is considered the best seasons to plan a trip to Ladakh. The temperatures during this time of the day vary about 20-30 degree Celsius with warm and sunny weather.

Ladakh is situated at the height of 10,000 meters above the sea level, where oxygen level is extremely low. You might fall prey to altitude sickness. It is therefore recommended that you make arrangements for the oxygen.

You need to have a valid Inner Line Permits, if you are interested in undertaking a tour, especially to the restricted areas such asNubra Valley, Pangong Lake and Tsmoriri Lake. These permits are issued by Deputy Commissioner Office in Leh. These permits hold the validity for 1 week.

Ladakh offers superb biking adventure for tourists. You are going to love the Himalayan drive, and it would be an amazing, memorable journey that is worth for everything.

The first two – three days are for acclimatization. You need minimum 15 days to explore the area, which comprises villages and monasteries scattered far away. It would be a great experience if you try hands in mountain trek, however, this would need more time.

Tourists traveling to the height of 3500meters need acclimatization. The level of this acclimatization is going to vary from person to person. Usually, an average person would like to go for a complete rest for the first day, even if he or she is fine and healthy. Keep in your mind that you do not consume alcohol. Temperature – It is significant to note here that during the peak season July and August, the temperature varies between 15 degrees Celsius and surges up to as high as 35 degrees Celsius. However, during the cloudy conditions, the temperature can fairly dropanywhere between 8 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius respectively.
Clothing– During the July/August (which are the staunch summers), light cotton long sleeved tops, sun hat, plenty of sunscreen will make a perfect fit. When the days are cloudy, it is very essential to wear a warm fleece like jacket to keep your body warm.

The government BSNL connection is considered to be the best network working in Leh and Nubra, whereas, Airtel, Aircel, and Vodafone have strong networks in Leh and surrounding regions.

The fully operation SonamNorbu Government Hospital is there to handle emergencies. There is also an army hospital to look into the trauma cases, provided if they are referred by the government hospital. In addition, there are at least three flights each day to Delhi from Leh resolving the emergency medical evacuations.

Ladakh, also known as the Cold Desert of Kashmir has 3 lovely lakes – PangongTso Lake, Tsomoriri Lake and Tsokar Lake. Khardung La

Khardungla pass is known to be the highest motorable pass of the Leh Ladakh region.. Chang La

Pork and beef is not served in the hotels and houseboats.
