The Imambara Zadibal is regarded as the first and one of the ancient Imambara in Kashmir valley. It was constructed by Kaji Chak, a minister of Sultan Mohammad Shah in 1518. The shrine is situated in the Zadibal area of Srinagar city in the western side of a fort. The Imambara carries a lamenting tale since 1548 AD to the period of reign of Sikh ruler Ranjit Singh in 1830. It was burnt down and destroyed eleven times and rebuilt each time. The original Imambara was dismantled in 2004 to reconstruct a new structure of the Imambara that we see today.
