Sher Garhi Palace is a historical monument in Srinagar. It lies in the southern part of the city on the left bank of River Jhelum. Sher Garhi means ‘Tiger Fortress’ is a former royal residence of Dogra Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmir. Originally, the fort complex was constructed by Afghan governor Jawansher Khan in 1772. Later in 19th century, the palace was extended several times by the rulers of the region. In present days, the palace has been used as administrative departments by the state government and called as ‘Old Secretariat’.
